No doubt, too, the voice of the Spirit’s teaching has not always been distinct and unmistakable, He shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you, For all things that the Father hath are mine; And the Spirit shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you. All true teaching agrees with the testimony of the Holy Spirit in glorifying Christ. These are among the things which the Father has, and these He has given to the Son. The whole historic development of man, looked at in the line of the plan of redemption, is clearly enough in this upward direction. Over other worlds.This supremacy will, under the guidance of the Spirit, be eventually acknowledged. In what is perhaps the most significant Christian book of this decade, J. I. Packer speaks to a certain type of evangelical ministry which is well-intentioned, but cruel.149 It is a ministry which means to offer men hope and encouragement by portraying the Christian life as a kind of utopian desert island, free from the trials and cares of life.150 In actuality it creates great upset in the lives of untaught Christians. How did the Spirit of truth glorify Jesus in guiding and inspiring their human authors! 1. The passage we just read is preceded by the familiar story of Christ feeding the 5000. Whether ye work at a lapstone, or drive a plough, or lay the stones in a building, or are diligent with the pen, or buy and sell, do all, even to your eating or your drinking, in the name of the Lord Jesus, and so, like the Holy Spirit, let it be said of you, "He shall glorify Me.". God hath "shined in" — not into the world only, that is not enough — could not be, for "the light shineth in darkness, and the darkness comprehendeth it not." The Holy Ghost has given us all the knowledge that we have of Jesus Christ. But it is the Master's work, and here is the promise which he has given for the encouragement of all his servants. You are a sinner! "The world will come to an end when Christianity shall have spoken its last word" (Vinet). He can make us know "the things which are freely given to us of God;" past, present, and future; "opening our eyes to behold wondrous things out of God's law.". Christ on the cross, not Christ in pre-existence, transcending thought as is the mystery of everlasting generation. All that the Holy Spirit would communicate, should return back to Christ, and serve to His glorification. How? What sayest thou in looking back? They belong to Him by necessity of nature. God is holy. 3. Under the Spirit’s guidance they lived wholly for Christ: the dispensation of the Spirit was the Christian dispensation. and to this cry of conscience is no answer but in Christ and in the sacrifice" of Christ. Thus our Lord sums up the work of the Holy Spirit within the Church. All the sailors on the ocean cannot make a capful of wind; but when the wind does blow they can crowd on every yard of canvas. Jesus had been a comforter to them during the time they had been walking with Him. Conclusion: The Father entrusts His all to Christ, and so surely we might venture to entrust our all to Him. John 16:14. Look at China. At first sight there does not seem to be any unity about this portion of Scripture.
